The heritage newspaper was founded in Toluca Lake in 1958 by Ellis Morcos. Years later, Morcos purchased The Canyon Crier, established in 1937, and the two newspapers eventually merged.
In 1972, Mardi Rustam became Publisher and Editor-in-Chief and changed the name to The Tolucan Times. The Tolucan Times office shuttered its doors in 2021, and went out of print for nearly 2 years. After decades at the helm, Rustam passed away in 2023.
The Tolucan Media Group purchased the newspaper from his daughters Sandra and Karima. As publishers, we’re dedicated to highlighting the culture, current events, community, shopping, homes, landscape, history, entertainment, and local personalities that make Toluca Lake a place with long-standing heritage and family.
Issues will be published every month along with regular web and social media updates. The Tolucan Times strives to produce an entertaining and community-oriented newspaper with the goal of being constructive not destructive, as it has been for over 75 years.
